Norpac completed an extensive program of concrete repairs on the Bridge River 1 penstock foundations. The scope of work included the following:
- Total of 706 repairs completed
- 625 linear metres of cracks repaired
- Over 100 m2 of concrete poured
- 119 base plate grout pads replaced
- 39 penstock anchors replaced
A substantial Quality Management System was put in place to ensure that all concrete work met the engineering requirements, with 1701 grout cube samples sent for third-party laboratory testing.
The site presented multiple challenges, including the steep slope and difficult-to-access terrain, rockfall hazards, wide range of temperature and weather conditions, remote location and consistently safe use of a helicopter long-line for transport of materials and equipment to the slope.
